Mechanical anti-siphon valves are installed as standard in all Krampitz gas stations.
But what is an anti-siphon valve good for?
We see this when we look at a well-known physical principle: the suction lifter principle (see video).
The suction lifter principle
To do this, we set up a simple experiment (see video). A tank with liquid is at the top. A tub without liquid is below. Now the tank is briefly sucked in via a hose and the hose is held in the tub below. The liquid runs into the tub. Until the tank is empty. This physical effect is called Suction lifter principle. Or: Extracting liquids.
Applied to a gas station, this means the following:
If the hose in the experiment (see video) were a dispensing hose, the hose would be closed again at the front after refueling and the flow would stop. But what if the hose leaks or the nozzle is torn off? We simulated that once. And as expected – it runs and runs.
If there is a leak in the pipe system, the entire tank would run empty due to the siphon principle, even though the fuel pump pump has long since stopped working. That would be fatal. Fuel is running out. Environmental pollution occurs or, in the worst case, a catastrophe.
Prevent the tank from leaking with an anti-siphon valve
To prevent this there is an anti-siphon valve. This valve is installed in all Krampitz gas stations. It is mounted on the suction pipe of the tank and If necessary, blocks the supply line to the fuel pump.
And that is how it works:
When refueling, the fuel pump creates a negative pressure that sucks the fuel out of the tank. This opens a valve cover in the anti-siphon valve and the fuel can flow. When you finish refueling, the fuel pump stops. The negative pressure drops and the valve cover closes. This means that the suction line is blocked and the tank cannot leak.
The anti-siphon valve means that the suction siphon principle cannot work. This protects the environment and makes Krampitz gas stations so safe.
